Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple is located at Upamaka in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh. Lord Vishnu’s is presiding here in the form of Sri Venkateswara Swamy as Swamyambhu. Upamaka means that there is no place equal to this.
Shrine’s History
Temple was built by Sri Krishna Bhupaludu, king of Kandregula region of East Godavari district during the 6th century. Lord Venkateswara is presiding on Garudadri Hill. The Hill looks like the shape of Garuda. Lord is seated on Horse along with His consort Goddess Lakshmi Devi facing North. There is a Raamasthoopam installed on 4th May 1964 by Sri Thridandi Sreemannarayana Ramanuja Pedda Jiyar Swamy. This is one of the 108 Ramasthoopas in India. It is believed that Praana Prathista of the main deity was performed by Narada. There is a temple of Sri Venugopala Swamy beneath of the Hill. Sri Venugopala Swamy is the Kshetra Palaka of this temple.

Legends Associated with This Shrine
As per the legend, Munis ardently prayed for liberation at the end of Dwapara Yuga. Garuda requested Lord Sri Krishna to rest Him on his head forever. Lord settled on Garuda Hills in Upamaka village in order to keep the word.
