At the centre of Jhalarapatan town stands the temple dedicated to the divinity of Lord Surya. Constructed along the similar architectural lines as Konark Sun temple, this shrine was built in 813 AD by Maharaja Nagbhatta-II of the Pratihar Rajpoot clan. The renovation of the temple was done in 1831, during the reign of Maharao Ummaid Singh- I and prince Kishore Singh. The golden Kalash was placed in the temple during this time.

Architectural Relevance of This Shrine
The architecture of the temple is in chariot style and bears close resemblance with Konark Sun Temple. The idol of Surya, carved in white stone in the temple is four armed and is in standing posture. The sanctum is built in such a way that the first rays of the sun touch the feet of the idol. The temple has a carve shikara built in layers. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings and there are numerous sculptures on the pillars and on the walls.
