Mavullamma Temple Bhimavaram is located in Bhimavaram.As the goddess manifested in a Mango farming the Goddess called by the name Mamillamma,later as Mavullamma.
Shrine’s History
It is believed that Idol of Sri Mavullamma Ammavaru was discovered in Motupallivari Street under Peepal and Neem trees in 1200 AD. However, the temple came into limelight in the year 1880 AD. Idol of the main deity was partially damaged in 1910 floods. Later Moolaviraat was reestablished by the sculptor Sri Gandhi Appa Rao. The temple walls are carved by beautiful sculpture images of various deities. Images of Rama Krishna Paramahamsa and Vivekananda can be seen on the both sides of the entrance. As the Goddess had emerged in this place and as this place is rich in mango trees the Goddess had been named as Mamilla Amma? and later it has been converted to Sri Mavullamma?. Another saying about the name is that as there are many small villages nearby Bhimavaram and they used to come here to pray the Goddess as their Grama Devata the name MAA VULLAMMA? had been incarnated.
Legends Associated with This Shrine
According to the legend, Goddess Mavullamma appeared in the dreams of Sri Marella Machi Raju and Sri Gandhi Appanna to build a temple where She was found. They used to offer prayers to the Goddess in a small hut. Later they built the temple at Sunday Market which was previously known as Aidhu Lanterla Sthamabam.
