Shrine’s History
Sri Madana Gopala Swamy Temple is one of the famous ancient temples in Andhra Pradesh. This temple was constructed in 1773. One can see the welcome gateway of this temple on the main road of Athili with Lord Venu Gopala Swamy, Lord Venkateshwara Swamy and Goddess Rajya Lakshmi Idols. Huge Idol of Lord Anjaneya can be seen near to the welcome gateway of this temple. Dhwajasthamb in the temple was installed in the year 1901.
Lord Madana Gopala Swamy Idol reminds us of Madhurastakam hymn written by Vallabhacharya Adharam Madhuram! Vadanam Madhuram! Nayanam Madhuram! Hasitam Madhuram! Hrudayam Madhuram! Gamanam Madhuram! Madhuradhiapatey Akhilam Madhuram?. The other deities in the temple are Goddess Rajya Lakshmi Devi to the left of the main Garbhagruha and to the right is Lord Vinayaka shrine. Lord Anjaneya is in meditative posture chanting mantra of Lord Rama on the other side. One can also see Goddess Godadevi temple near to Sri Madana Gopala Swamy Temple. A special attraction is Koneru (pond) where Lord Vishnu is in reclining on Adisesha with His consort Goddess Adi Lakshmi Devi seated near His feet.
