Sri Kuralappa Perumal Temple is located in the village of Thiruppathisaram, also called as Thiruvanparisaram, Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu and also revered as one of the 108 Divya Desam temples, dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Shrine’s History
The exact date year about the construction of the temple was unknown. The major renovations of the temple were done by the King Kulashekhara, one of the twelve azhwar saints and Thirumalai Nayak, the most notable of the thirteen Madurai Nayak rulers in the 17th century.
Legends Associated with This Shrine
The legend says that the two couples named Udaya Nangai and Kaarimaran, got married at Thiruvanparisaaram. Since they had no children, they visited Thirukurungudi temple, where Lord Nambi is the presiding deity, and prayed to Lord Nambi for child boon.

The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Thiruvazhmarban also called as Kuralappa Perumal . The deity is 9 feet tall and is made of a special element called Kastusarkara yogam, Mustard and Jaggery paste. Since the presiding deity is made of Mustard and Jaggery paste, no Abishekam is performed to the deity.
Goddess Mahalakshmi is found on the chest of the lord. And Lord Kuralappa Perumal holds his weapons Shangu and Chakra in His hands. The Indra mandapam of the temple has special paintings of Dashavatharam of Lord Vishnu, the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
