Sri Deyva Nayaga Perumal Temple is situated in the village of Thiruvaheendrapuram, Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu and also revered as one of the 108 Divya Desam temples, dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Shrine’s History
The structure and inscriptions found in the temple bear testimony to the association of later Pallavas, Chola and Pandya dynasty rules. This place was constructed by Aheendran hence it is called as Aheendrapuram. This place is also known as Brahmachalam as Lord Brahma did penance here. The Vimana of the temple is known as Sudhdha Saiva Vimana. The water body brought up by Garuda flows as Garudanadhi whereas the one brought by Adisesha is known as Sesha Theertham. Thiru Mangai Azhwar and Acharya Maha Desikan had sung the glory of Perumal in their hymns. Sri Desikan had lived in this place for about 4 decades and wrote many books on Lord Vishnu. The place he resided is still praised as Desikan Tirumaligai.
Legends Associated with This Shrine
Devas were defeated by Asuras and driven away from their place. All of them approached Lord Vishnu at this place to seek help. Pleased Lord Vishnu promised and applied His Discus that chased and killed the demons. Then Lord Vishnu appeared as Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva in front of Devas. As He saved Devas from Asuras He is called as Lord Devanatha Perumal. Later Lord Vishnu decided to stay here. Knowing Lord Vishnus decision, Adisesha built a town, presently called as Tiru Ahindi Puram ? Tiruvahindipuram
