Penna Ahobilam Narasimha Swamy Temple was built on the banks of Penna rivulet, Penna Nadidam falls near Uravakonda, Temple is 2800 feet above sea level and built in Vijayanagara style. This temple is for marriages.
Shrine’s History
It is believed that the temple was built on Lord Narasimha Swamy’s footprint, which is of 5′ 3”. The other footstep is in the Ahobilam Temple in Kurnool. It said that Lord gave darshan to Udhaalaka Maharshi. In 1472 A.D, King Sadashivaraya of Vijanagara empire installed a big statue of Lord and built a majestic temple. At the foot, there is a tunnel and all theertha of Abhishekam goes to penna river and hence, there is no theertha here. Also by the side of this temple, is a temple of Udhbava Mahalakshmi ‘temple where Sri Maha Lakshmi is in Udhbava form Sadashivaraya installed this idol. A cobra visits mother Maha Lakshmi regularly. There are many inscriptions on Temple walls, which refers to Chalukya King Kirtivarman II, which dates to 8th – 16th centuries. Narasimha bugga, where water emanating from the roots of a Tree. It is believed that this the place where Narasimha Swamy killed the demon Hiranya Kasyapa.
Legends Associated with This Shrine
It is believed that the Ugra Sthambham, placed high up the hill from which Narasimha Swamy came out of the pillar to kill the demon Hiranya Kasyapa. There is a pond Rakthakundam in the downhill, which is 2 km from the temple, is believed to be the place where Narasimha Swamy washed his hands after killing Hiranya Kasyapa. The Abhobilam was derived from ‘Aho Balam’ means ‘What a power’
