Legends Associated with This Shrine
Sri Kadiri Narasimha Swamy lost in dice board play with his wife. With the victory over the Lord, Sri Lakshmi started teasing Swamy, for which Lord uneasy and left the place. While on his search for the stay at Yerramala, Nallamala Hills, He the met Sri Uma Maheswara Swamy at Yaganti and requested for a suggestion on his residence. On His request, Uma Maheswara Swamy guided Him to the present Temple location which is next to Maddileru canal. Moksha pattanam which is 3 km away from Maddileru canal was ruled by King Kanappa Dora. Kanappa Dora used to go for hunting on every Saturday while going around the forest, he noticed a monitor lizard glowing and in the different colour so ordered his staff to catch the monitor lizard. Soldiers after repeated trials were not able to catch the lizard, the lizard then entered anthill called as Komali.
Soldiers were not able to find the lizard even after digging the anthill and they all returned to their kingdom. On the same night, Lord appeared in the dreams of the King and revealed that it is Him who appeared as a monitor lizard and entered the anthill. On knowing this, King along with Vedic Pundits offered prayers to the God residing in the anthill. Lord pleased with their prayers, and came out from the anthill as a 10-year-old boy and disappeared after blessing them all. As Narasimha Swamy manifested next to Maddileru canal, this place came to known as Maddileti Narasimha Swamy Temple
