Legends Associated with This Shrine
As per the legend, there is a story on these Shakti Peethas and their significant importance in the Indian tradition. Maa Sati is one of the goddesses of Indian legends daughter of King Daksha?. When Sati was young and was growing old, she performed intense sacrament to get Lord Shiv as her husband. But her father was against the marriage; still, Maa Sati managed to marry Lord Shiva against her father’s will.
A day came when King Daksha was performing a Yagya, he asked all the deities to come but he did not invite Sati and Shiv. Sati insisted Shiv for attending the Yagya and Lord Shiv permitted her to go but Lord Shiv did not. On the approval of Lord Shiv, Sati went to attend the Yagya, but her father insulted her and her husband which she could not tolerate. On insult of Lord Shiva by Maa Satis father, she threw herself into the sacred fire. When Lord Shiva heard this, he infuriated. Shiva started pacing all over the universe with the body of Maa Sati in his arms.
He started the ferocious dance forms of destruction of the universe. In order to save the Universe, all the deities and devas went to Lord Vishnu and grovelled for help. Lord Vishnu with his Sudarshan Chakra cut her body into many parts. Where ever these parts fell on earth, those places became Shakti paths. Though there are many Shaktipeethas in this world, however only 51 are considered to have been found. One amongst those 52 Shakti Peeths is this, Maa Bhadrakali’s Temple where her right ankle fell down, since then it became a sacred place for worship. Pandavas worshipped here before marching for Mahabharat war along with Lord Krishna and after the victory in the battle, Lord Krishna came here again to worship and offered his horses in her service. Since then the devotees are offering terracotta and gold or silver horses in return after their wishes are getting fulfilled.
