The Kashi Vishwanath temple The Kashi Vishwanath temple is the abode of the lord himself who is manifest here as a syambhu linga, i.e. a self-manifest image not set up by human hands. Lord Shiva is manifest here immersed in deep meditation, showering his blessing upon all humanity.
Shrine’s History
The present temple was built over the pre-existing ancient altar, in the year 1857 A.D. by the queen of Tehri Smt. Khaneti Devi, w/o king Shri Sudershan Shah, the traditional Himalayan temple architecture is employed here. The image of Sakshi Gopal and the sage Markandeya are seen represented here as in meditation.
