Temples are like Ornament of Jain culture. Temples have always been important for Jains. Daily practice of visiting temples is one of the most prominent and prevalent habit of Jains and thus it is obvious to find Jain temples in the areas where you can find Jains; even if they are only few.
Jain temples are unofficially categorized into three types
1.Tirthakshetra: These temples of great importance, where kalyanak (holy life events) of Tirthankar bhagwan took place or is known for some specific miracles. Tirth are major pilgrimages with Many Jain temples scattered throughout the vicinity with dharamshalas , guesthouses, bhojnalaya and other facilities to host any grand Events.
2. Sikharband Jinalaya/ Derasar/basadi which has tomb/shikhar and temple structure properly constructed in a typical Jain art & architectural style. These temples usually have either small or large compounds.
3. Gruh jinalaya/ ghar derasar/ Chaityalay :- temples within a locality, particular house or simply in a shop size area, with one or few statues within a Gandhkuti/vedika/vedi.
now coming to the question since India has a long history of Jainism and all states and union territories except Lakshadweep and Daman and Diu have some Jain population. So there is a Jain temple in every part of India.
To begin with Kashmir, there was a ghar derasar which is recently been shifted to Gujarat. But there is huge Shikhar band shwetambar jain temple in Katra, Jammu. details of any digambara jain temple can be obtained from this derasar.
Himachal Pradesh has many Jain families there is huge digambar jain mandir with nice dharamshala in Shimla/ Simla, at mall road. Also, there are two swetambar jain temples here. There is a famous Jain tirth at kangra near kangra fort in Himachal Pradesh and there is 2000 years old statue of lord Mahavira at fort.
There are many Jain temples in Haryana and Punjab; there are more than 10 and more than 20 Jain temples within Chandigarh and Ludhiana, respectively. Haryana even host the Digambar Jain Avishay kshetras like Ranila. Other cities like Jalandhar in Punjab and Rohtak in Haryana are home for many Jains and have Jain temples. Golden tomb Jain temple at Hoshiarpur is old but noticeable.
Assam and Meghalaya:- east Indian states Have Jain temples of special interest as they differ from other parts of India. They have unique architecture which is peculiarly north eastern. Digambar Jain temple in Guwahati, Dispur and paoni bazar Imphal are worth visiting. Above all historical Tirth shri Suryapahad is something not to be miss.
Goa :- with the history of 2000 years goa was once a huge center of Digambar Jains. Many ruins of ancient Jain temples are found recently. Goa has a national park named after lord Mahavir and have five shwetambar and one Digambar Jain temple with Dharamshala.
Andhra Pradesh & Kerala: – southern states India were once the major center of Jainism before violent Shaivite and vaishnavite Revolutions.
