The beautiful Nepali-style Dhirdham temple is a Hindu Temple of Lord Shiva located south of the Darjeeling market center and just below the Toy Train Railway Station. It was built by Purna Bahadur Pradhan in the year 1939. Pradhan was also known as Rai Saheb, a title given by the Viceroy of India in 1936. The temple was designed by the Gorkhali architect Beg Raj Sakya.

A Gorkhali Architect designed the architecture of the temple keeping in mind the Pashupatinath temple in Nepal.The temple looks phenomenal in its Tibetan Style structure painted in vivid colours like red, yellow and white. The exterior of the temple is like a multi-layered Pagoda surrounded by green trees and shrubs. As you enter the premises, glance at the splendid white statue of Lord Shiva which depicts his five expressions and the third eye collectively called Panch Bakram Tri Netram?.

Every day an aarti is held at 8 in the morning and 6 in the evening. There are no boundations for the entry as people from all caste, creed and religion are allowed to take the blessings of the Lord. The temple serves as a special attraction in the month of February and March when the festival of Shivratri is celebrated with utmost gaiety and enthusiasm here.
