Shrine’s History
The legend says that the torso of Sati fell here and her weapons got scattered all over the place. Thus, even today huge number of iron trishuls and some old statues can be seen lying around the revered temple of Chandrabadani. It is believed that when her own father Daksha humiliated Sati, the wife of Shiva during the performance of a yagna. Sati, unable to bear the humiliation meted out to her, jumped into the very fire in which the yagna was being performed. As Lord Shiva was carrying the burning body of Sati, a part of her torso tore apart from the body along with some metallic weapons and objects fell down on the earth.
The Chandrabadni Devi Temple has been built over these very remnants. The premise of the Chandrabandi Temple, therefore, is filled with hordes of metallic tridents or trishuls. The temple that has been constructed for the Chandrabadni Devi is located at a height of 7500 feet above sea level. The temple lies at the peripheries of the Devaprayag Town and is close to Pratap Nagar. Devotees, who wish to visit the abode of Chandrabandi Devi, have to travel up a metallic road for ten kilometres from Kandikhal.
