Temple is believed that those men and women who have not been married for a long time will surely be wed if they come to this temple and worship Lord Shiva. The shrine in this temple is similar to the lore and legends that say the story of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati.
Shrine’s History
During the divine Shiva-Parvathi wedding in Mount Kailash, the place went down due to the heavy weight of the presence of all the beings to have this darshan. To balance the level of the earth, Lord Shiva sent Sage Agasthya to South. The sage had to sacrifice his wish of witnessing the wedding.Lord assured him that He would grant the wedding darshan to him in this holy place.Enjoying the divine darshan here, Sage Agasthya installed a Linga right of the Sundaralingam for his worship.That Linga is behind the presiding Linga.
Legends Associated with This Shrine
The lore says that the etymology of the temple is because, Goddess Parvati married Lord Shiva in this sthalam, and therefore the name Thirumanancheri. Yet another speciality in this temple is that the other form of Lord Shiva is Arulmigu Dhakshina Moorthy in deep tapas, and Manmadhan threw an arrow of a flower to get him out the tapas, but Lord Shiva because of his temper, opened his third eye and burnt Manmadhan into ashes. But Rathi Devi, wife of Manmadhan requested him to bring back her husband and with her request, Lord Shiva brought Manmadhan back in this sthalam.

The place is sung in the Thevaram hymns of Thirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar.
Wedding Festival in the month of Chithirai (April-May) on Poosa star day for three days celebrated with great splendour. Adipura, Thiruvadhirai, Thirukarthikai are observed.
As marriage is a significant aspect of our community, the temple looks crowded always. Those who wish to get married is supposed to worship in this temple and offer prayers to the Lord and will be given with garlands, which is supposed to be worn and come to this temple with the insignificant other and offer prayers again as a thanksgiving.
It is also said that if we perform special poojas for Gokilambal Sametha Sri Kalyana Sundar by offering him with the Garland, all the hurdles in our marriage gets cleared and the marriage takes place very quickly; there were so many incidents for the worshipers that have happened here after they come and offer the garland to Perumal and Ambal.
Another speciality of this temple is by offering the Milk Payasam towards Mangala Raghu on every no moon day will give the puthra baghyam.
