Beechupally is home to a famous shrine of god Hanuman. The shrine is located on the banks of river Krishna approximately 30 kilometres downstream of Jurala Hydro Electric Project in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana.
Shrine’s History
The family deity of the people of Mahaboob Nagar, Raichur and Kurnool is Beechupally Hanuman. This temple was largely patronised by the Kings of Gadwal till its sudden fall after independence. The chariot festival of the temple every year is conducted by the Royal Family in a religious manner that is perfectly blended with ancient customs and tradition of this temple. This temple also received the patronage of Mouryas, Satavahanas, Ikshvakus, Chalukyas of Badami, Rastrakutas, Kalyani Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, Vijayanagar Kings and Sultans. It is strongly believed that the idol of Hanuman might be installed by Sri Vyasa Raya, the guru of Sri Krishna Devaraya who lived during 1457 – 1539 A.D.
This shrine was in a successful manner built with very spacious Mandapam by Gadwal Kings in the sanctum sanctorum around 200 years ago. The temple is facing south direction and Hanuman idol is facing towards East direction. Most people tonsure their hair at this shrine. It is the best place for religious tonsure of a head of the children. This temple has a Kamili tree which is regarded as a sacred tree that fulfils the wishes of its worshippers. Pilgrims come from Dharwad, Hubli, Raichur, Adoni, Ulindakonda, Kurnool, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthi and Gadwal.
Architectural Relevance of This Shrine
In this region, the popular temples are Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple, Sivalayam, Kanuma Maharushi Ashram, Jammulamma Temple, Jogulamba Temple and Srirangapur Temple. Among these temples, Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple is unique in its architectural style and pattern among these said temples of this region. It is built based on South Indian Ancient Hindu Temple architecture style and pattern with a lot of perfection. It is a medium sized Hindu temple with the four-sided wall. There are an entrance and exit gateways with moderate height towers on it. The flooring and the ceiling of this temple look like made in medieval period. The pillars of the hall are carved with images of local Gods and Goddesses. The religious object placed within and outside the temple premises are marvellous in its unique styles and pattern. It is to be highly noted that special artisans who have best skills and talents from far off place were brought during the making of this shrine.

Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple is known among the adherent devotees, pilgrims, visitors and tourists for its annual temple festival that is celebrated in a unique manner which blended with regional customs and traditions. On all the auspicious days and festive days, special poojas, homams, yagnas and other religious activities and functions are performed as per the Vedic rules and regulations.
