Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple Mopidevi

Temple is believed that Lord Subramanya appeared in the dreams of an ardent devotee Veeravarapu Parvathalu and revealed his whereabouts. Parvathalu with the help of other villagers unearthed the self-manifested Idol from the anthill.

Legends Associated with This Shrine

Rishis Sankara, Sanakasa, Sanatkumara, and Sanatsujata who are ardent devotees of Lord Siva and disengaged themselves from this materialistic world and remained naked. Once, they visited Mount Kailash to offer prayers to Lord Siva. During this time, Sachi Devi , Swaha Devi , Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Lakshmi also arrived in Kailash. Lord Subramanya who was sitting in his mother’s lap snickered innocently on seeing fully dressed Goddesses on one side and nude Rishis on the other side. Goddess Parvati reprimanded Subramanya for his childish act. Realising the mistake, Lord Subramanya took the permission from his mother and reached the Earth to perform penance. Lord Subramanya did penance in the guise of a Serpent and got relieved from the sin. And the place where the Lord did penance later came to be known as Mopidevi. Rishi Veda Vyasa mentioned the sacredness of Mopidevi in Skanda Purana.
